Purpose and Need
To meet the anticipated increase in AM and PM Peak ridership to two Manhattan terminals (Penn Station and Grand Central Terminal) when East Side Access opens.


Current Ronkonkoma Yard

·        Twelve storage tracks; each holds a 12-car electric train

·        Yard is 100% utilized for AM and PM peak service

·        Employee facility

·        Provides interior car cleaning and servicing

·        Mandatory FRA equipment inspections


Proposed Yard Scope

·        The expanded yard will include:

o   Eleven (11) additional storage tracks, each holding a 12-car electric train

o   New employee facilities

·        Provides interior car cleaning and servicing

·        Mandatory FRA equipment inspections


Benefits Include

·        Main Line customers from Ronkonkoma and points west reap full benefits of $10.8 billion ESA investment

·        Frequent peak service to Penn Station

·        Frequent peak service to Grand Central Terminal

·        Greater opportunity for MacArthur Airport connectivity

·        Opportunities to add shoulder peak service in years prior to ESA

$76.6 million funded from existing MTA Capital Program budget
